In March, I’m traveling to Los Angeles! I’m incredibly excited that this journey is finally becoming a reality. I’ve had the invitation waiting ever since I met Cynthia Bach at Pastis on a late November evening in 2019. Now I’ll finally get to see her again — and at the same time experience a little taste of the Academy Awards!
Over the past year, I’ve been fortunate enough to adorn Maria Ekerhovd, producer of the Norwegian film Affeksjonsverdi, which is now nominated for 9 Oscars.
There will be mingling and networking events alongside being a tourist in the City of Angels. It will be so exciting to see what happens. Maria will wear jewelry from Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture during the Oscars — unique pieces I presented this summer, and which were later shown in an exhibition at Nordmørsmusea in Kristiansund.

Maria Ekerhovd from Merfilm, Oscar-nominated, at the European Film Awards in Berlin! Here she is wearing a piece of jewelry I created for Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture.

From Cynthias homepage: Cynthia Bach has been a jewelry designer for 38 years. After studying art in Munich, Germany Cynthia received her BFA degree in art and jewelry making from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas where she met and apprenticed bench jewelry making with master jeweler Jim Matthews. In 1989 Jim and Cynthia were recruited by Van Cleef & Arpels in Beverly Hills to run design and fabrication of the jewelry department. In 1991 Cynthia launched her own collection with Neiman Marcus nationwide. She has been the recipient of numerous awards from the jewelry industry including the coveted International Platinum Guild Award, the Spectrum Award, and the Couture Award. Her designs have been recognized and awarded by the American Gem Trade Association.

I stayed a few extra days in New York City when I met Cynthia Bach and joined her launch at Neiman Marcus, where I also met, among others, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, one of Cynthia’s clients, film producer and wife of Samuel L. Jackson.
What an incredible experience it was to discover the city together with a firework of a star designer, who was just as curious about Norway and Kristiansund.
The plan was for Cynthia to visit me in Kristiansund the following year, and for me to travel to Los Angeles to meet her network. But then COVID came, and everything was put on hold.
Now the opportunity has returned, and we’ll meet again in LA in just a few weeks. Stay tuned!
